As Djute handed Yukaida the doll, he couldn't help but notice the look of disinterest in her eyes. He couldn't say that he was surprised. After all, she seemed to come from a place with widely different values and, like him, saw no value in something as superficial as a doll, though he suspected the reasons were just as different. For Djute, he had never played with toys when he was young, and had spent any money he earned had gone to purchasing maps or supplies to make maps. He had never seen the value of playing with dolls, anyways. They didn't help develop any new skills and they only served to create needless attachments for small children. Regardless, she seemed to understand the sentiment and took it without complaint. Almost immediately after she asked about explorers, Zach jumped in with his explanation before Djute could even open his mouth. The young mage had a habit of doing that, but he didn't mind so much. His companion was much more energetic than him and he almost expected him to always be ahead of him in the conversation. When he was finally able to get a word in, he added his own opinions. "The guilds... they, uh, usually look for... for certain skill sets. Like... for example... our guild looks for people who... you know... can find hidden paths, or.... can draw maps like... well, like me, I guess. He didn't like to talk about his abilities. To him, it was nothing special and his mother had always taught him that humility was best.
Without warning, Zach took off towards a game at a nearby stall. It was some sort of puzzle or maze, the kind of thing that Djute had never been very good at. It was funny. He could understand the scrawling of a map and use it to guide himself, but when it came to navigating a ball through a maze, he was surprisingly lacking. He gave Yukaida an amused shrug before following after the mage. When he caught up, Zach had already started playing. From what he could tell, his friend was already behind, and wasn't likely to finish in time. Djute's suspicions were confirmed when the last grain of sand hit the bottom of the hourglass. The mage seemed disappointed, but there was a glint in his eye that showed he was not quite finished with the game. Djute, however, had no interest in trying it. Rather, a few merchant stalls further down had caught his eye. He made his way towards them, eying their wares as he went. One stall in particular caught his eye. Upon it's counter lay a number of carved earrings, in the style of those worn by nomads. Djute had seen a few nomads in the village near his home and he had often marveled at the interesting designs of their jewelry. When one of their craftsmen had stopped in the village, he had acquired one of their earrings for himself. His mother had been shocked to see it, but had lightened up when she saw the smile on his face. The memory brought a smile to his face as he scanned the merchant's inventory. He spotted one that was the same color as his mother's eyes had been, and pointed at it, asking for the price. The merchant held up three fingers in response. He nodded and produced the proper coinage. He replaced the old earring with the new one. The weight was different, but he would get used to it rather quickly.
