Name: Delphi
Age: 21
Class: Cat Taguel
Appearance: Standing at around 5’9 with a standard build for a Cat-- strong and nimble. Where she hails from has extreme temperatures judging from the caramel brown of her skin and her bleached blonde hair. Dark yellow feline ears stick out from the tangled hair on her head, and a short-hair tail comes out from her back. Markings that are also yellow can be seen on her face and all her limbs except for the tail. Delphi’s not sure if there even are markings there and she really doesn’t want to check.
eyes are shaped like a non-taguel feline’s with a kind of brown colour specks in them. Yellow-brownish tufts of fur cover her elbows and the back of her legs. There’s more of it at her waist and shoulders but the former is hard to see except for the bottom most of the time. The fur puffs out when she gets cold or angry and you’d think she was wearing fur boots. Speaking of shoes, she won’t wear any unless it’s freezing outside. Her feet are hard and smooth like a stone since her tribe roamed the desert of a faraway land. She’ll wear whatever’s on hand be it rags, armour; etc. She’s not good at keeping her clothes, it’s like a curse or something. Like most of her tribe, she wears a lot of glass beads which she doesn’t lose, mostly bracelets on her hands and feet. One of the bands on her left arm features a tiny metal version of her namesake, a Delphi Shield she picked up at a metalworks shop not too long ago. One time she tried having beads woven into her hair, it didn’t end well for either of them. How was she supposed to know she had to sit completely still?
Personality: Delphi’s always on the move. That is to say, she charges forward without any forethought, not that she has infinite amounts of energy. It’s rare you won’t see her doing something though, even if it’s just squirming around. She’s even restless in her sleep; nap next to her at your own risk. Delphi’s recently picked up a fondness for writing as well. Her reading is a work in progress and her handwriting is messy and riddled with spelling errors. But it’s really the only time the girl’s sitting still. Unfortunately, she runs out of parchment and charcoal quick and she’s back up and moving. All her life she’s had an affinity for shiny stuff. Mostly beads, gemstones and coins are a hassle to carry around with you.
Although interacting with many other taguel over the years she still harbors a slight fear of them. Despite being an excellent swimmer, Delphi’s also a hydrophobe like countless other cat taguel. She’d take on a legion of birds than a dip in the ocean anyday. She doesn’t mind canine taguel, but they never seem to like her much. She has yet to meet a bear or a rabbit as well. Delphi hasn't met many dragons but she tends to fall asleep during conversations with them--it's not her fault they go on and on like that! She has a fierce and somewhat blinding loyalty to anyone she calls a friend, even if they just met yesterday. Which leads to confusion if two of her friends fight over something. Basically she's a big ol' scaredy cat but she'd never admit it.
Backstory:
A pirate and a taguel seem like an unlikely pair, and it would’ve been impossible if he hadn’t have fished her out of the ocean more than a year before the cubs’. On the verge of death she was, but she was still healthy enough to explain how she fell out of a ship in a battle between the cat taguel and the bird taguel of the western islands. Then she passed out. He had plenty more questions for her that night but it was better to just let her rest. This pirate was named Dockard, the first mate of the Delphi as well as a gentle giant of a man. The young taguel woman introduced herself as Diana after she woke up the next morning in a sort of daze. Dock pronounced himself to the rest of the crew as her protector--much to her annoyance--and from then on he would guard her like a huge skinned bear. Irritation slowly grew into friendship, and then romance; Dock gave up his position on the ship for Diana after thinking for hours on end about it. There was no place for a child on deck, much less a pregnant woman. The captain was sorry to see him go, but he’d been a good and faithful servant. The pirates docked in some remote port town, gave the two supplies, and set off on their way(not without taking a few treasures out the town for themselves, of course).
Delphi and her three brothers were born in a lean-to in the middle of a torrential downpour. Her father still says today it was a miracle they ever made it to a village without drowning that night.
He left their supplies behind and carried her along with the four cubs into an actual village, over three miles away. The door being kicked down brought the innkeeper out of his bedroom along with a knife. He scurried off to wake up the town medic; it was bad luck to deny medical care to visitors. Dock woke up after nearly two days to see Diana asleep with the cubs all safe and sound. This is where the two have lived ever since, helping with the crops, the fishing, and caring for the cubs as they grew into adolescence. It was no walk in the park around a bunch of soft humans either; so the cubs would only show their wild sides when they were roughhousing with each other.
The girl was especially powerful for some reason. She wasn’t stronger or faster but in a pinch it was like she couldn’t feel the little nubs clawing at her at her. It was much more noticeable as they grew up, but fortunately by the point where the power had worn off they had to go back to tending the fields or the animals. Nothing of any merit really happened inside the quiet little town, it was so remote not even bandits attacked it. Delphi’s father went from the sword to the sickle with age, but her mother never really gave up the old taguel spirit. Diana went to great lengths to instruct all four on how to fight like any self-respecting feline. Delphi wanted to get to know the world, to see cultures of all the shapes and sizes imaginable since that little town was hardly a fraction of what there was out in Elibe. Incredible customs and breathtaking views, not to mention the thought of shredding some of the monsters the humans mentioned in whispers.
A guild seemed like a good place to start and it wasn’t like she was some defenseless child, so Arcadia would be a good place to travel to first as a major stop. Both parents hesitantly agreed, and said their goodbyes to Delphi. She wouldn’t need much except for the clothes on her back and a few rolls of bread until she would be able to hunt some real food. The town was sad to see her go but relieved for the sake of less roughhousing; it’s always unnerving seeing full grown predators fighting like stray dogs in the middle of the town square.
