Death given wings - Gargoyles are among the most actively and intelligently malignant of all monsters, consistently responsible for more loss of life than any other species of monster and hated by every race. While not as dangerous individually as some of the larger species, Gargoyles make tremendously effective use of their unique blend of mobility, lethality, and durability to launch devastating attacks on unwary settlements and vanish into the night before the army can arrive. They are devilishly cunning and work in perfect concert no matter where the rest of the pack might hail from; bring two Gargoyles together from across Elibe and they will still synchronize better than many lifelong duos. Explanations for this phenomenon are lacking, though the two most popular theories are that this is achieved by either some form of instantaneous communication - a mental link of some sort, perhaps - or a fundamental and instinctual connection between the entire species. No one has really proved either explanation correct.
As might be obvious by this point, Gargoyles are essentially public enemy number one for every species - they have killed more dragons than any other monster type by capitalizing on the mighty wyrms' vulnerability during sleep, have raided enough human settlements to match the human propensity for killing each other, and seem to hold a personal grudge against every Taguel alive. Some theorize that this is due to the relative difficulty of launching raids on the underground warrens of the Taguel, but whatever the reason, even Taguel watch their backs and keep their senses keen when out hunting at night in Gargoyle territory, knowing that they may be only seconds away from an unreasonably massive assault from the skies on leathery wings.
Gargoyles fight with a wide variety of of lances, many of them looted from the corpses of fallen foes. Group tactics are extremely common, with some of a raiding group utilizing javelins or spears to harry foes from a distance as more heavily-armed Gargoyles swoop in for killing blows. Strength, Speed, and Defense alike are consistently high among gargoyles, with decent Skill and underwhelming Resistance - their mobility and durability makes physical attacks worthless against them, requiring magic to effectively remove their many advantages and take vengeance for the lives they have ended.
