As the armies of Ibium and Actona move into position for a full confrontation, both seek to blunt the damage they will inevitably incur by playing the situation to their own benefit before outright hostilities begin. By striking at supply lines, engaging in last-minute diplomacy with nearby countries and other powerful players, and force recon to discover the exact size and composition of the forces they must face, they hope to arrive at the battle itself with a crucial advantage - and that's where mercenaries come in.
Players can choose any mission from the list for their chosen side, which can be undertaken alone or with other players (recommended), and then are set free to do their best to complete it within the timeframe of roughly five weeks. You may only take one mission per character per arc of the event, but you may involve any number of characters in either or both arcs, on whichever sides you prefer. A given mission can be taken separately by multiple players/characters; we'll try to work it out canon-wise as we go, but consider joining existing topics if you can. It's up to you if you want your mission to be versus NPCs or other players - note that rewards are given for finishing the topic, not for succeeding, so you can "fail" a mission and still get the full reward for it.
On the subject of rewards: up to 500 gold for each finished topic (so up to 1000 over the event), and the person on each side who achieved the most for their chosen country will be granted a Lordship. Oh, and I guess you can leave your mark in Nocturne canon history if that's your thing, but gold is shinier.
Missions
Actona[
[Stirred, Not Shaken] A small Ibian strike force has slipped through the border and into western Actona through use of forest cover and traitorous border guards. Ensure they do not complete their goals, and that they do not leave alive. It couldn't have anything to do with the dam in the area, could it...?
Ibium
[Cockroach Extermination] Not everyone is focused on the frontlines - with every soldier Ibium can spare on the northwest front, bandits and brigands across southern Ibium have descended on its trade routes with a vengeance, determined to take advantage of the lapse in security. Ibian recon units have discovered a major bandit fortress in the southeast, and are launching a massive last-ditch offensive to crush the bandit stronghold in this momentary lull before the storm. Support their efforts and try to ensure that as many of the Ibian troops survive the encounter as possible so they can reinforce the main army before hostilities begin.
[Border Patrol] Ibian and Actonan border patrols have clashed along the southern border, and while neither country is quite ready for a full-on war, neither is willing to back down. Reinforce the Ibian patrol and make it a show of force to teach those Actona scum a lesson.;
Global
[Silver Tongues] Attempt to convince Seath, a powerful Ice dragon that lives to the north of the shared border, to side with your chosen country. One topic only - both sides in same topic, staff will decide at the end which arguments succeed. Seath is loath to interfere with mortal border disputes and will take very poorly to threats of violence, but has a vested interest in things calming down as quickly as possible, even if he has to rouse himself to ensure it happens sooner rather than later.
