Every ten posts, you gain one level. This continues until you pass the level cap for that class; at what is essentially level 21 or 31, you "promote," instead becoming 20/1 in the next tier of class. This repeats as you go from Advanced to Elite, and with Limit Break, from Elite to... still Elite but with better stats. Below are the racial class caps.
How do stats work work?
First off, let's look at what stats do and what they don't do. They exist for three reasons: conveying a sense of character growth, giving a rough overview of a character's strong and weak points, and (as necessary) comparing abilities in player-versus-player combat. No more, no less. There is no need to stat out non-player characters in normal RPing, you don't need 27 strength to be able to lift a cow, and you don't need to apply math skills beyond basic addition or subtraction to do any of that. Stats are really just there to help represent your character and their growth, and as a backup measure in case of debates in PvP combat.
How they work is simple: Basic classes at level 1 (aka the default) start with 20 stat points. Every level beyond that adds 4 stat points. For reference, a level 2 character has 24 stat points, a level 20 basic character has 96 stat points, a 20/1 Advanced class has 100, a 20/20/1 Elite class has 180, Elites max out at 240 points at 600 posts.
There are seven statistics: Strength, Magic, Skill, Speed, Luck, Defense, and Resistance. Stats are fairly self explanatory, but a quick overview: Strength is raw physical strength. Magic is magical power. Skill is accuracy and perception. Speed is how fast you can move. Luck is basically "graze" for avoiding the worst of attacks. Defense is your defense against physical (Strength based) attacks. Resistance is your resistance to magical (Magic based) attacks.
You can set and improve your stats by vising the Personal tab while editing your profile.
All caps are per-stat, not total.
Basic: 30
Advanced: 40
Elite: 50
Manakete: 25
Dragon: 45
Taguel: 45
Okay, but what happens if we have the same stats?
Common sense and roleplay happens. The guy with the better sword has an advantage, or the one with higher Sword Mastery, or the crafty thief who trips her opponent and plants her "inferior" sword into her fallen opponent's face. Equal Strength/Defense just means a good strike will do average damage, but is unlikely to be immediately lethal. 40 Strength versus 0 Defense is gonna get ugly, though, and certain weapons (Killing Edges) trade accuracy, weight, or blocking ability for tremendous damage. In PvE (player versus environment, as in any time you aren't actively fighting another player), common sense and roleplay are all that is necessary.
What if I don't like my class?
You may change to a same-tier class by contacting a staff member and parting with 2500 gold. Taguel and Manaketes cannot change elements (Dragons) or tribes (Taguel).
- Human classes are split into three class tiers: Basic, Advanced, Elite. Each promotes to the next at 200 posts (level 21).
- Manaketes promote into Dragons at 300 posts (30/1), and at 600 posts gain the (aesthetic only) title Divine Dragon.
- Taguel do not change classes.
