Name: Gabriel
Age: 20
Class: Mercenary (1)
Appearance: Gabriel has a stern yet caring face, with the high sharp cheekbones of the plainsmen from southeastern Elibe. His strong jaw line and rugged face are hand-me-downs from his battle-worn father, and his dark brown hair gracing his head and goatee are gifts from his departed mother, the last living evidence of the tribesmen in his blood. He has steely brown eyes that can sometimes wonder with his fanciful flights of daydreaming, but they burn like fiery steel when his focus turns to his goal.
Personality: Gabriel is a bit of an enigma. He is a dreamer and a romantic at heart, dreaming of one day seeing the world, falling in love, and risking all for king and country, one day to be immortalized in song. This romantic is buried deep beneath a hardened shell however, because of the hardships he has had to endure in his childhood. He has basically been the main breadwinner ever since his mother died and his father became to sick to sell his sword anymore. This has forced him to develop a serious exterior, his years of selfless training and working long hard hours for barely enough pay to feed him and his father have given him a fairly bleak and pragmatic outlook on life. His guard can still be broken with a good joke, or a good song or drink, and he is a sucker for a pretty woman (especially one in need) but most of the time he is very serious and business like.
Backstory: His father, Godric was a wandering mercenary from the frozen highlands of northern Elibe. In his travels, when fighting a war of succession in the southern mountains of Elibe, he met a woman in the plains of eastern Elibe, Llanya and fell in love. He married her, brought her back home to his hometown of Firenze, and there they bore a child, Gabriel. The northern climate did not sit well with Llayna and she fell ill and died when Gabriel was but a lad of three. Godric did not handle this well, and took to the drink to cope with it. He worked long hours and was frequently not at home, leaving Gabriel to fend for himself most of the time, although a kindly priest by the name of Father Riccar who would check in on him from time to time and ensured Gabriel had enough to eat and occassionally taught him lessons of history, politics, and told him stories of old. This is where Gabriel first learned his love of the bards' tales and songs. It was not long before Godric's burning of both ends of the candle left him too sick to lift his blade, and he returned home to rest. His long trips away from home left Gabriel and his father distant, and with no income coming into to the household anymore Gabriel was forced to squire with a mercenary group, earning him enough to bring home a meager pile of beans every night for him and his father. On the eve of his 20th birthday, while he was away on mission with his mercenary band his father died in his sleep of an unknown sickness. With all of his ties to Firenze severed, Gabriel decided it was finally time to step out into the world and make a name for himself, to the see the lands from Riccar's tales, and to find something worth fighting for.
