Name: Hanayako Kaen, "Hana" for short
Age: 25
Class: Majin, 21 (Fire)
Appearance: Despite being quite physically fit, Hana isn't exactly on the muscular side of her frame. Rather, she'd leave it to her fists to get the job done instead of relying solely on physical strength. In order to be able to turn her body into a weapon itself, she always keeps her clothing as lightweight and comfortable as possible for swift and clean movement. That's not to say she doesn't try to keep herself up. While a fighter at heart and cared not for how she looks, she still maintains her outward appearance as healthy and clean as possible, especially taking the most pride in her hair. Even with years of vigorous training and experiences she's undergone, Hanayako refuses to fit under the stereotype of appearing like some battle-hardened warrior just because she's seen quite a lot in her short life. Hana just wants to be Hana.
It's because of life's experiences that she's able to exude a very calm, yet gentle air around her at first glance. Hana tries to appear as friendly and open-hearted as much as possible, especially since those traits ARE apart of her character after all, and it was best to be honest about her qualities instead of trying to mask them behind false characteristics. She takes pride in the qualities that she's made up of and wouldn't want anyone to see her as anything else. Whatever compliments or insults comes her way, she doesn't allow them to injure the appearance she sets for herself, otherwise she'd eventually lose sight of who she is...and everyone knows that shouldn't happen to anyone.
Personality: Despite her not showing it much on the face, Hana is a very kind and sweet-hearted individual who always maintains the "do-gooder attitude" to some extent. Believing in the saying "fight for what YOU believe is right", she holds that to it's highest regard. This in return set her up as a rather passionate individual with broad enthusiasm. As a child, that made her quite naive, but now as a grown woman, she's able to temper that enthusiasm to levels that meet with her maturity and doesn't allow it to be a weakness. In fact, she uses it as one of her greatest assets to both push her on through life and give her the fuel behind her punches and kicks. After all, being apart of the Kaen family, she's going to have some impressive confidence. Though unlike her family members, she could actually keep a level-headed attitude.
...That's not to say she doesn't eventually slip up every now and then. Reflections from how she was as a child make themselves more apparent the more she becomes attached to an individual. One moment she could be as collected as a shelve of books while another she could be the most cheerful person you've had to be around...for better or worse depended on the person. Thankfully, Hana's able to control that side of her in times of seriousness, but still grates on her that despite being mature enough, she couldn't cast aside the remaining fragments of her childish side like an easy task. It sometimes even prevents her from opening her mouth to speak sometimes out of sheer embarrassment. Even with her funny side, she decided that if she couldn't rid herself of the traits, she'd have to eventually accept it as a part of her just as she'd done for everything else.
Being viewed as generous by nature, it was at least another trait of herself that she didn't bother to question or worry about. Sharing is caring! ...Or, at least that what she used to say when she was little. It was another part of her do-gooder side, though a more focused one. Generosity ran deep within her character to the point where there are moments where she shares a little too much happiness and other good-nature things to where she may not leave enough for herself. Something Hana herself didn't particularly mind too much, but some view it as a flaw that would eventually eat away with her as she ventures even further into her life and mature, as no one's actually "100% matured", says her father. Hana herself just silently decides to herself that she'll handle that when the time rose for appropriate attention.
Backstory: Unlike the normal, peaceful family you'd expect from the human race, the Kaen family was one that didn't know the meaning of "settle down". A clan of those who were heavy practitioners in the art of the fist. They never believed in the power of steel, and would rather steel themselves rather than rely on a sharp and pointy toy to do most of a soldier's dirty work. They knew that as human beings, they had their limits, but finding out what those limits were became their goal in strengthening their bodies to be made into a weapon. Discovering how to manipulate their inner energies (or as they like to call it, chi), they expanded on their unique fighting style unlike ever before. Once they were quite weak in the past for not relying on weapons, but now, their magical powers along with their fists have become a terrifying combination of brutality. They welcomed all who wanted to test themselves and see if they were worthy enough to handle the gifted magic, for they felt no need to keep it in the family.
Being born into this prideful family, Hanayako lived in the village that she and all of her relatives reside. As a small child, she was quite sheltered and naive to the outside world. Confined only to her village, she didn't have the luxury of exploring Elibe, since the Kaens would rather keep their children safe within the sanctuary of their village so the outside world won't tear them to pieces with their inexperienced hands. Of course, this differed from battle experiences and they'd want the children to know the basics before being allowed to run wild to chase their dreams.
Hana was raised well in her growing days and she held quite the healthy relationship with both family and peers. Since the village also housed people other than Kaens, she was at least decently knowledgeable on how to socialize with others as compared to most sheltered children. She wasn't confined to a single room, so that meant a lot more exposure than normal. She loved the villagers and friends she made, as it seemed like the perfect life. But when she came to the age where she wondered how outside the village was, it frightened her to an extent. Were people outside the village as friendly? Her older relatives had grown and ventured further out of their village to experience the world and what it had to offer, and they very seldom returned home.
Around fourteen years of age, their family met with a bit of tragedy. Her mother and aunt began clashing against each other in argument after argument, as her aunt picked up the strange mindset of using her powers for the sake of trying to seize more control for their family's territory. She didn't like being owner of the small village and wanted much more. Greed seemed to be everywhere, even in peaceful environments. One day in particular, her aunt tried to take her hostage and was desperate for wanting others to agree to her methods. This fueled somewhat of a little war between the families, as her aunt's family sided with her and decided to flee the village one day with her in tow. With Hana's family and other of her relatives wanting to rescue her, they gave pursuit in the fleeing renegades.
It wasn't until the feisty young girl managed to break out of her aunt's grip and tried to foolheartedly take on the whole band of deserters alone, knowing she lacked the skills to do so. But it was either her or them, and she would rather die trying to set herself free. Of course, the renegade Kaens needed her alive to use her as a pawn for their goals, so her efforts were meaningless as they forced her to the ground within seconds. However, her little effort bought time for the rest of her small family to catch up and this resulted in a long, bloody battle that unfortunately costed the renegades their lives, including Hana's aunt. Family wasn't supposed to harm each other...and that sort of battle was something Hana didn't want to see. However, she was forced to...and needed to in order to see just how dark people can be.
The next year of training for her that followed marked the beginning of her desire to set out and see what the world had to offer, as she found the resolve she was searching for and decided to stick to it. She wanted to make it her mission to use her power to aid those who suffer from tragedy. She didn't know how outside was, but if something like what happened in their family could occur, then who knows what happened outside. She was at least old enough to defend herself, but traveled with her father and brother, Kai and Erston, for a few years on the outside world.
She was met with very different situations on the outside world, none of which she had to deal with back at home. But with her family there to support her, she still felt...secure. It wasn't until she was eighteen that she decided to part ways with her two family members, feeling strong enough to challenge the world all on her own. They couldn't stop or disagree with her because she was an adult now, able to make her own decisions. When they took their long journey back home, Hana was left to whatever she wanted to. She'd have money sent to her from home every now and then, and until she found her purpose, she still had to rely on them to some extent.
She began volunteering for aid in many struggles she's encountered, using her martial arts the way they were meant to be used. If she had to fight to bring peace, then she'd immediately side with those who seemed just and lent her assistance. Over time, she began to lose count of how many people she'd punched and in returned, it also honed her skills. Eventually, she even found herself discarding the gauntlets she fought with, as they only held her back from what she was capable of and how much she'd grown to gain much more precise control over her magical abilities than she had before. It was quite a sad way to end conflicts, but punching her way through foes for the sake of a peaceful world for seven years straight managed to give her enough insight of the world to where she learned that adults needed to make difficult decisions for the greater good.
She held no loyalty towards a specific group and helped others independently out of her heart when they required it. If she had to go to war only for those she'd believe in, she'd do it. Now she realized why certain family members hardly returned home to visit. They found reasons to live in this world and chase those dreams constantly...and she finally found hers.
