Elibe is a harsh land, filled with magic and danger and equal parts; monsters roam the world and youkai stake claims to territory, dragons zealously guard their own lands and sometimes govern their subjects - and as it always does, humanity perseveres throughout it all.
The Lycian Divide is relatively safe, due in no small part to the imposing presence of Arcadia overhead and an uneasy truce between the humans and dragons alike who live there, but outside of the ring of mountains surrounding it is a mystical and treacherous world that defies mappers. Elibe was never exactly friendly to the living, but in the last century, it has only become ever more dangerous, as monsters go berserk and a strange miasma grows to cover and consume all in its path. Abnormal crystal formations occasionally consume villages, and youkai of all shapes sorts provide danger - or safety - depending on their nature.
The ruins of old civilizations are sad to lay hidden somewhere out there as well, but for those who live outside of the Core, it is not an obsession with the past so much as hope for the future that drives them to stake their lives on finding new futures. There are many villages, perhaps even cities, to be found - but the dangers of the world make casual travel impossible and even the spread of information difficult and slow, so the truth of exactly who is out there and where they are is generally murky at best. Superstition and legend mix with the truth, poisoning or at best misinforming assumptions and understanding of the world.
But not everyone sees the world as a dark and horrible place - for where there is danger, so too is there opportunity, adventure; whether it be to map out the world, to hunt strange and terrible creatures worthy of their blades, or simply to investigate rumors of forgotten realms and hidden magics, adventurers of all types regularly forge their path through the strange and troubled world of Elibe.
And now, for now apparent reason, monsters have mostly stopped going feral, the natural disasters that so often plagued Elibe of yore seem to have almost entirely stopped, and even the spreading miasma no longer seems as eager to expand. While there are no shortage of men willing to take credit for these unexpected boons and a thousand times as many adventurers willing to take advantage of the lull to find out more about the world that is understood so poorly, the wise wonder what caused those events in the first place - as well as what might come next in their wake.
