Name: Veigue Magnus
Race: Human
Appearance: Despite his average height and generally well-toned physique, the silent warrior is very captivated in the style of masking his body; much like his attempt in hiding his true feelings. Almost all the time, Veigue is seen sporting a light cloak; having a plain black, sleeveless shirt underneath. Despite the composed way he carries himself, the swordsman hardly cared about proper clothing. He continued to maintain the mentality that a true warrior shouldn't dawdle on appearance, and should just wear what's comfortable and appropriate for all situations.
It was one of the minor, albeit foolish reasons why his family members didn't respect him.
But that wasn't the true excuse for why Veigue wears such an odd attire. Being met with an unfortunate fate against a sworn enemy, Veigue hides his tattoo'd right arm behind bandages and his jacket's sleeves, due to the mark being no mere arm decoration - it sapped and suppressed his strength and magic prowess, and the more his arm was exposed, the more the mark would burn. Not to mention that elsewhere on his body and on his concealed forehead, he holds a secret network of scars from his brutal history from the world.
With a steeled appearance, the aloof swordmaster often finds himself in more solitude than expected; no doubt the sharp and piercing gaze of his bearing responsibility for that.
It's a win/lose situation for him.
if people were uneasy about approaching him, that meant a great deal to him that others will keep their distance - he preferred to be as far away from a person as they wanted to be away from him. The sixth sense of knowing when scornful eyes laid on him always tingled, complementing his judgmental prowess. But as an even exchange, his appearance caused him to feel isolated and not worthy of interaction.
Personality: Being a very quiet and reserved individual, Veigue isn't exactly Mr. Extrovert. Faced with several years of neglect and solitude, it's something that the silent swordsman has grown accustomed to over the years. Hard to approach, Veigue himself knows that he's normally an underdoge in society; and double so with his own kin. As such, he hardly attempts to act social or even try to wave to someone in order to give them a simple hello. He was comfortable with responding to approaches though.
Despite this and his cold exterior, Veigue's heart is far from steel. Deep down, he's quite the sensitive man despite his dexterity with the blade; and possesses a latent, gentle nature that he only allows those worthy of respect to see. He's by no means a troublemaker, but many can't appreciate his silent and reserved nature from the start. This only added more proof to his distrust towards others - regardless of race - and takes it to heart that he's better off a lone wolf.
Being an individual driven for personal success and strength, Veigue's a very meditative young man who manages to maintain a calm and composed demeanor at all the appropriate times. Despite the weight on his shoulders, Veigue's quite adept at pulling over an elaborate mask to trick people into believing he's got himself and his life completely under control - one-hundred percent. It's a large delusion that he himself is grossly aware of, but doesn't dwell on it in order to keep himself going and improve further.
Witnessing the bitterness of the world, it's rubbed off on him too, for he's quite stubborn to accept any help.
History: Born within a small country to the northwest in the Outer Reaches of Elibe, Veigue's hometown was nothing but simple, to say the least. His family, the Magnus, were the sworn protectors of their small country's main town. As a countryside nation, not much went on aside from few monster attacks and bandits here and there. However, the Magnus took their swordsmanship with pride and critical care, despite the natural peace of their small land. Of course, there's sometimes no such thing as a perfect balance...
Just because a country with a few sister villages was hardly a big target for outside interference didn't mean that there were problems internally. Given the state Elibe was in and the country's lack of friendliness towards outsiders, they're isolated and only accept goods and services as their way of communicating with other countries or nations within the Outer Reaches. Because of this, this enforced the Magnus' strict protection over the home they swore their lives on, and have adapted to the country's cold nature. With so much isolation, the pent up frustration was expressed among each other.
Being the last born child of three to Sigmund Magnus, Veigue entered the world with horrible timing. His mother died in child birth, so he never experienced the relationship of a mother and son for himself. Instead, he was left with Sigmund and his two older sisters, Gina and Lillian. Even with those three in his life, the concept of family never dawned upon him; they weren't very good at educating little Veigue on that.
His father held a strict bone in his body, teaching him the ways of becoming a true swordsman and a man in general. His sisters didn't want much to do with him, other than use him as a guinea pig or trick him into giving up the tiny portion of allowance money his father gave - amounts of it he had to save up for months in order to afford any wooden crafted toys he wanted. Regardless, it was even obvious to the girls that they felt Veigue was responsible for "killing" their mother when he was born, and that certainly added more fuel to the fire that Veigue didn't deserve. But of course, they were still stupid children that didn't know any better; and having a bad influence of a father only complicated matters.
Even at a very young age before adolescence, Veigue was able to realize that his father favored his two strong, prodigal girls over his lesser, talentless boy. He was able to see why his father was so strict with him because he couldn't swing his sword in any kind of refined way in their unique fighting style.
Since he didn't know his mother or how it felt to have one, it only formed assumptions that she'd treat him the same as the other three did. It was a rough time, and even as he became older, he couldn't grasp their style.
It was then where his father put him to the ultimate test: to see if he could truly handle the life of a swordsman. In a ruthless sparring match that went horribly wrong, his father delivered a very lethal blow to the boy's head with the tip of his katana. If Veigue's head didn't jerk back out of fear, Sigmund was sure to carve deeper and split the boy's head open from within. Despite Lillian's lack of respect for Veigue, even she was surprised and nursed her comatose brother back to health before his horrible wound could cause any kind of serious damage. She was even hesitant of being near her father after that - who wouldn't be?
During his weakened state, young Veigue was met with an ultimatum - a fear of his family and the citizens around him would scar him forever. Despite his father almost killing him, any bystanders and people who gossiped about it had no kind of plan established to punish his father for what he did for him, overall proving that his own countrymen were spineless cowards who couldn't bring judgment upon their country's most renowned sword master of the era. Yet, Sigmund refused to give his son any kind of apology, and at the tender age of twelve, Veigue decided to abandon his people on a journey in search for power, knowledge, and belonging.
Little did he know, the world was a lot nastier outside his people's territory than he thought. The Outer Reaches were quite ruthless, and the moment he brought his katana with him for protection, he found out the hard way that he'd end up using it every day at some point. If it weren't random monsters attacking him, it was some nut swinging around a hunk of steel either trying to rob him or take advantage of him because he was a child. The first three years of his solo journey were probably the most difficult, for he continued to lack any kind of direction in his swordsmanship; and he barely survived his skirmishes each time.
It wasn't until he met some old fart on the streets who was decent in a rather exotic fighting style to Elibe. When the old sword sage rescued Veigue from some ruffians, he wanted to at least teach the boy something - especially after seeing that horrid scar on his forehead and a large one on his back. Knowing that a child that young didn't deserve those kind of deep rooted wounds, he passed on what he knew to Veigue before disappearing into the unknown. The old guy was more of a father than Sigmund was; Veigue feeling a little attached to the guy before being forced to part. But with new knowledge in hand, he owned a new technique and a stronger blade gifted to him before walking on a longer path of blood.
The fighting style passed to him felt more natural than the proper and unnecessarily fancy style his family honored - as if it were meant for him to have. Granted, his decade of struggles alone still weren't easy, but his skills and overall power grew impressively the more he fought for survival. By the time Veigue aged well into his twenties, he became a swordsman so adept at his swordplay that he was sure to have rivaled his father by then. He wouldn't have known until he faced the blackheart in combat, but something went horribly wrong one day on a journey back to his country...
He met some really odd mage of the Nether called Jaquio, who seemed to have a small reputation in the Outer Reaches as some "Wizard of the Void". Veigue never heard of him, but the wizard had his eye on Veigue from the shadows for years. He noticed that the darkness in the swordmaster's heart continued to grow the more he slaughtered his opponents; and that he was thoroughly intrigued by Veigue's growth. Veigue himself was just about ready to ignore the guy and not even bother entertaining him, but the wizard was interested to the point of attacking Veigue in order to pique his interest - and it worked.
At the pace he was growing, Veigue was seeing a sudden decrease in challenging opponents, despite ninety-nine percent of his encounters were not on a friendly note. Seeing Jaquio hurl some advanced Nether magic at him definitely caught his attention. Regardless, Jaquio wanted Veigue to be his right hand man, but also desired the swordsman to prove himself with his own skills. Fortunately for Jaquio, Veigue managed to fell him without too much of a problem and proved himself well, but the swordsman wasn't particularly in the mood games, for he inflicted multiple wounds to Jaquio to where the wizard was quite fearful for his life.
Out of desperation, the wizard conjured up some very unorthodox spell right when he grabbed Veigue's sword arm by surprise. It was quite difficult for the swordsman to forget. Other than the whole marking Veigue with a curse so deep that it made a tattoo and sealed almost all of his magical powers and cut his strength in half, Jaquio said with much enthusiasm, "WANNA SEE SOMETHING COOL?!" when he initially grabbed on. Veigue wanted to decapitate the buffoon where he stood, but with the mark giving him burning sensation after another, he was forced to back off in agony while Jaquio made his escape.
Bound to inner shackles on his power, Veigue was met with a grim fate; wondering if he'd ever break the seal. The more the mark was on his arm, the more excruciating pain it delivered. Sometimes he didn't even have to do anything and the arm would act out in pain on it's own, likely feeding off the darkness and resentment in his heart as it held a stronger choke on his power each day. But Veigue was still a determined fellow in the end, slowly gaining a solid grip on the sealed power to where he managed to train himself to move at his usual speeds despite the suppression. Couldn't do anything about the weak magic and power though.
Unable to face his father and his country in the revenge he sought in his condition, Veigue held onto a new goal to find the wizard and force the idiot to undo whatever he did to him. But after much research on the particular seal he cast, Veigue found out that he could also dispel it by killing the one who cast it. It was a violent goal, but with so much blood on his hands, what was one more? Plus, the dumb wizard had it coming, considering Veigue learned that the guy screwed over a lot of people similar to him. So he sought to undo the spell piece by piece on his own with his willpower... just enough to be strong enough to face the wizard in combat and have him undo it completely. Not to mention that if he take Jaquio out the picture, it might undo past curses he's planted into any of his previous victims - IF they were still alive.
Even with all that in mind, it wasn't the most worrisome thing on his mind; he couldn't defeat Sigmund in his current condition, hence wandering on a journey of detouring...
Combat: Being suppressed severely by the deviant who sealed his powers, Veigue is forced to revert back to his old days of utilizing his proficiency with the blade alone. He can still use a fraction of his magic, but in his cursed state, even setting his sword ablaze caused the bandaged arm to sting uncomfortably. Even though using his lightning magic was no better, he could still swipe out concentrated sword waves of electricity with minimal pain; and that was if he was desperate enough to even go that far.
On the physical side of things, the determined fighter re-trained his body enough to regain his swiftness. Unfortunately, that was his only great asset to fend off his opponents, for the restraints on him suppressed half of his physical strength as well. Regardless, it doesn't mean the steeled warrior is a pushover in his shameful state - he can still cleave through foes effectively enough.
Self-teaching himself after his father refused to acknowledge him, the wanderer eventually picked up on an Iaido-esque fighting style from the sword sage - incorporating his katana's sheath as a makeshift second weapon - with his swordplay, venturing and experiencing bloody encounter after another. With years of back-to-back aggression and slight mentorship along the way, Veigue's fighting style was honed to a more finesse and controlled technique. Relying heavily on his mobility and precision, the warrior is quick-footed; and the average joe normally wouldn't know what hit him until one of his limbs were already severed. Even with his physical strength halved, Veigue's still a very cutthroat opponent.
Even before he was cursed, that didn't deny Veigue's greatest weakness; he commanded power and blinding speeds, but he was as durable as a foot soldier without armor. He'd thought of augmenting his durability via improving his magic, but Veigue felt it'd impact his fighting style in a negative fashion. He deals with his natural durability to the best of his ability, realizing that any opponent that outclassed him in strength held the capability of felling him in one critical swoop if he wasn't careful - this doubled in severity once his powers were suppressed.
