Name: Djute
Age: 16
Race: Human
Appearance: Though Djute is only sixteen, he is already developing the body of a working man, the result of being his mother's sole caretaker since a young age. At 5'6", Djute is short for his age, but makes up for it in muscle. His hair is lavender, the same color as his eyes, and has been lazily chopped off in the back. It is messier in the front, where it is held back by a grey headband, cut from the same cloth as his unassuming tunics. His only clothes are plain, grey tunics that are well worn and faded and a pair of traveling boots in a similar condition. He wears this underneath his guild issued armor, a collection of chartreuse colored bits armor that protect against attack surprisingly well.
Personality: Though grumpy and pessimistic when pressed about certain aspects of his life, especially the issue of his father, Djute is generally an upbeat person. Though far from the sunniest of people, Djute will happily gush about topics he is passionate about, especially cartography. Djute can come off as a little awkward, as he had little interaction with anyone outside of his mother for most of his life. He has little knowledge of the other races, and generally views them as myths, the subjects of tales and legends, but never actually encountered by common backwoods folk like him. Djute's purpose in life is simple; he wants to explore and to chart the world, bringing new knowledge about the world back from each journey he sets out on.
History: Discussing Djute's parentage always becomes a bit of mystery when it comes to the issue of his father. Some swear that he was a married man who carried off a passionate affair with Djute's mother, before being discovered and disappearing from her life. Other's claim that he was a nomad who was taken by her beauty, but whose yearning for change took him away as quickly as he had come. Regardless of who he was, one thing is known. He didn't stick around to find out he had a son. This caused a lot of animosity between the citizens of the town and Djute's mother. During her pregnancy and the years following where Djute was too young to do any manual labor, the townspeople grudgingly helped his mother get along. However, as soon as Djute was old enough to swing an axe and make the trip from their small house to the nearby town, the aid of the townspeople slowed to a halt.
Over the next few years, Djute assumed the role of primary caretaker. He had certainly been too young when he first started, but no one ever said life was easy, a mantra he came to live by. Life was tough, but Djute got by, his only respite being his mother's smile and maps. Djute was fascinated with maps, and would often scrape together whatever gold was left over after purchasing the essentials to acquire a map from travelers passing through the small town on the edge of central Elibe. Djute taught himself to read for the sole purpose of reading maps, and after he was finally able to buy paper and a quill, he began to draw maps of his own, covering the area surrounding his house and the town nearby. Eventually he longed for more. He grew tired of drawing the same areas over and over again and wanted to see more. He yearned to live his small house and see the world, discovering and charting areas of Elibe that few had ever seen before. However, for years this was simply just a dream. He had responsibilities and traveling the world was just as far-fetched as the lands he yearned to see.
Shortly after he turned 16, Djute's mother was stricken with a horrible sickness that quickly wasted away at her aging body. When Djute was finally able to fetch the local priest, he said that the sickness that plagued his mother was beyond his rather meager healing abilities and that all they could do now was pray for a painless end to her suffering. As it turned out, she would not suffer long. Later that night, she beckoned Djute to her bedside and informed him that her time was nearing it's end. In tears, he begged her not to go, that he still needed her, but she just shook her head and whispered softly, "My time here is done. Follow your dream." After that, her eyes closed and she slipped from the world. Grief stricken, Djute spent several more days in the small house that they had shared for so many years, before finally listening to his mother's advice and following his dream of seeing the world. The next time a merchant caravan came to town, Djute went straight to them and asked them the easiest way to see the world. They advised him to travel to Arcadia and join an explorer's guild, as they were always looking for fresh cartographers. When they set out to return to Arcadia, Djute traveled with them, joining the first guild that would except him. Before they would let him travel on any of their expeditions, however, they required him to go through several months of training to both use a sword and move in armor. The training was hard, but thankfully his years of labor had conditioned his body and Djute was able to finish ahead of schedule. His training now complete, Djute longs to journey on the guild's next expedition.
Combat: In preparation for guild expeditions, Djute was trained in the use of swords. He prefers larger two-handed broadswords, which he can put the full strength of both his arms into each swing. Djute's style is aggressive, focusing on broad swings of the blade meant to defeat and incapacitate his opponents as quickly as possible. He also relies on heavy blocks, being too slow to effectively parry an attack, and relies on his armor to absorb some of his blows.
Though not currently aware of it, Djute possess latent nether magic abilities. It currently remains dormant, waiting for an intense emotional moment to burst forth.
