Name: Bromdid
Race: Youkai (Voidborn)
Appearance:
Even for a voidborn youkai, Bromdid is particularly bizarre in form and shape. Roughly the shape of a malformed egg, its body shifts between sickly colors of red, yellow, and green. Thick, pulsing veins of blackish purple run along its form, running to a single point on its back. A broad bulbous forehead extends from the top of its form, along which sits two lidless orange eyes. At the bottom sits Bromdid’s mouth, a lipless set of teeth from which its inhuman voice spews forth. Along the side run its two tentacle like arms which end in three black digits. Rather than move along the ground, Bromdid floats just above it, suspended by the forces of the Nether. Bromdid is just larger than a male human teenager, but floats far enough off the ground that it is eye level to most people.
Personality: Bromdid’s personality swings wildly between cold, logical reason and passionate, reckless emotion. At one time it can be rational and focused, considering every action with the careful determination of a military general. Other times it is passionate, sorrowful, even violent. Its attitudes and behaviors are entirely tied to which personality wins out. However, Bromdid is always curious, looking to learn and chronicle the facts, experiences, and emotions of the world.
History: Originally formed as a being of pure emotion, Bromdid dwelt in the void for many years. The peace it felt there would eventually be shattered, however, when a group of cultists summoned it into their realm. The cult's leader, Sarius, was a powerful summoner and practitioner of Nether magic. He had drawn Bromdid into the world with the intent of turning it into a powerful magical weapon. Surprised and confused by its alien surroundings, Bromdid was easily bound by Sarius and his cultists and with no way to escape, it was helpless to fight back as they began to experiment on it. Their intent was to create a being with the pure raw emotional power of Nether magic controlled by their particular school of cold, logical Aether magic. To do so, Sarius drained the very life force of his followers, including his apprentice and lover, Marriah. He drew the energy out of them slowly, making sure to never take more than they could give, and fed it into the captive Bromdid.
Sarius’s one failing was that he only regarded Bromdid as a magical construct rather than a living being, and this would serve to be his downfall. As it turns out, living things are infinitely more complex than mere constructs. Rather than fusing together and forming one being of two magics, the infusion of Aether magic did not take. Instead, the two magics began fighting for control, visibly upsetting the confused and scared Bromdid. With a second type of magic now flowing through it, and being able to control neither, Bromdid broke free of the magic that bound it, killing Sarius and several of his followers in the process. Still fighting a battle within itself, it fled from the cult and into the strange alien world that awaited it. The two magics eventually settled within it, however, the battle still goes on to this day, albeit slower and more calculated. Bromdid now wanders the world, curious and eager to learn about its new home. However, it is all too aware of how its appearance affects the people of this world and is wary of going too near large areas of civilization. It strives to discover and chronicle the knowledge of the world, not only to sate its curiosity, but also so that it may someday know peace.
Combat: Bromdid controls the forces of Aether and Nether magic and switches between the two depending on which is currently more powerful within it. When using Aether magic, it utilizes clean, precise beams of light and startling lances of pure energy. Its Nether magic, however, is messy and wild. It lashes out with feral tendrils and misshapen orbs which seem to eat the very light that surrounds them.
