Name: Erebus
Race: Abyssal (he prefers “Infernal”)
MBTI: ENTP
Major Arcana: The Devil
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Appearance:
Erebus - Bringer of Chaos
Erebus is a slender main of about average height, around 5'8, who sports messy white hair and a pale complexion. On the surface, at a single glance, Erebus appears strikingly human His eyes are a sharp, bright gold and glow whenever he begins casting magic of any kind, partially giving away his non-human status.
What truly gives him away, however, would be his clothing. Erebus changes his clothing frequently, having created it out of warped, controlled nether in the first place. As such he can alter the style and design of his attire, and also warp it into raw nether for use in combat. His body beneath his attire is lined with old black, purple, and blue runes of a language long since forgotten. That said it's rare that he'd simply leave himself completely naked (not that he's at all opposed to the notion), and as a result he tends to wear “real” shirts and garments beneath the fancier nether clothing.
His styles usually involve fancy looking cloaks, capes, jackets, shirts, pants, boots, and hats. He's a fondness for hats. Colours are usually black, blue, and purple, as the attire consists of primarily of nether. In regards to the “real” clothing he wears, he prefers whites and golds.
Personality:
Erebus - Anarchy Incarnate
Erebus comes across as a charming, if not slightly insincere, charlatan of sorts. He's adept at talking with others and can make friends or acquaintances with many kinds of people if he so chooses. Erebus considers himself an adept flirt as well, a smirking devil with a silver tongue, quick-witted and too clever for his own good. He will especially chat up those who catch his interest, not necessarily focused on physical appearances whatsoever, given his race.
That's just the thing with Erebus, though. HIS interests. The infernal basks in his own desires and actively seeks out to fulfil and satiate them however he pleases. It doesn't take too much time with him to realize he's got a self-centered, narcissistic nature, even if he doesn't explicitly steer conversations towards himself. It's his ideas, his goals, his needs that drive him and he refuses to deny himself. At most he will delay, scheming and manipulating a situation so that it brings him the rush and excitement that he craves.
Erebus bores easily and, as such, is in a near constant state of searching out entertainment. Often times he's willing to simply make HIMSELF the entertainment, acting loudly and boldly like a truly confident showman. As such he has a distinct curiosity towards many things he has not yet witnessed or experienced before. Be it some manner of action, the personality quirks of an individual, an ideology he had not yet heard of before. For someone so narcissistic he can be remarkably open minded, always encouraging fresh and new ideas over tried and true traditions and values.
Much of the excitement Erebus craves stems from causing chaos. Uprooting systems, throwing wrenches into the machine, or even outright annihilating both, Erebus acts as a true agent of chaos. Much like how he basks in his own desires and thrives within the Nether, Erebus loves the myriad of emotions others go through when they experience true chaos and relishes in witnessing the different reactions. Due to this lust for anarchy and disorder, Erebus disdains those who would bring absolute order to the world. Be they “white knights” who uphold law and order, rulers who control a territory or several, or even a slave master with but one slave. Erebus chafes at the idea of “owning” another being or enforcing one's will onto them, believing that an individual should act however they wish so long as it is their own desires that they follow.
As an extension of all this, Erebus himself doesn't enjoy being told what to do or where to go. Nothing will incite his wrath quite like another attempting to control or restrain him from doing as he pleases, and he can turn violent and even sadistic towards those who try if they push him too far, deciding that causing them pain and suffering is what he desires and exercising his freedom by carrying this desire out. Failing this, or if he's somehow in a position where he cannot retaliate against a controlling force, this usually makes his situation even more dire and can leave him distressed, unsure of what to do next and too angry to think it through, driven by fear and rage in equal measure.
“The Abyssal, Erebus, is a unique being, like all the others I have studied. His personality is that of someone who, in their early existence, had trouble determining his place in the world. A free spirit who isn't really locked down. Someone who would venture out to look for what's missing within. He's got a little madness in him, a love for a little chaos and mischief, and someone who greatly desires and appreciates his freedoms. If he's put in a situation where he's locked down and unable to do as he pleases, the bit of chaos in him becomes Wrath, and his wrath can make his situation spiral out of control. He'd no longer be a free spirit, but a lost one.” - ?
History: Erebus is an old Nether-born, one who has existed as a unique individual for quite some time. Like others of his kind his unique form took shape only after forging and holding fast to a single desire. A wish, pure and untainted. He was uncertain when he was first formed, and the hive mind that attempted to cling to his being even frightened him at first. The greed and envy that flowed among the endless ocean of emotions within the Nether stuck out to him. The fledgling half-emotions of unformed Abyssals that coveted what he had.
In time, however, Erebus adjusted. He began to embrace it, enjoy it, for nothing could take himself from himself. He was uniquely him, whatever that meant, and he was ready to explore and experience everything it took to discover this meaning.
Being an Abyssal, however, it was not long before he first made contact with a mage. One had not called upon him with the pull of summoning magic, nor had one come to visit him first, instead he happened upon them. Curiosity drove him to assist the mage, willing allowing himself to a pact with them. Thus began his first partnership with a mage where he was put into battle, defending a kingdom from a rival kingdom. It was not long before he was eventually summoned by the opposing side, turned against his former allies.
Erebus experienced many struggles and battles. Some were so intense he was forced to retreat into the Nether lest he lose his life. Others he became a dominating force that turned the tide of the battle. He learned a great deal about warfare, combat, and even politics from these many experiences, but he soon tired of them. Bored. Even the mages that summoned him to study the physiology of such a humanoid Abyssal eventually grew tiresome. They were all so small minded, asking the same questions over and over and over again.
As his power's and personal drive grew more and more, Erebus himself grew strong enough to resist the summons of mages lesser than himself, Erebus would reject their pleas and attempted summons. Mages began to seek him out personally, risking a venture into the nether for his assistance. Amused by this Erebus would taunt the mages, luring them deeper and deeper into the Nether, curious what the endless onslaught of information and emotion would do to them. It turned out that many such mages. Turned out the effects were different almost every time, though the end result was often the same: madness and even death.
His long existence leaves many details of his past known only to him, and those who came into contact with him and survived. Erebus prefers to keep things in such a way, putting little priority on the past in favor of moving ever forward, exploring new locations in Elibe, new people, new ideas. Kings and Summoners had become subjects of ire to Erebus throughout the years, representing the suppression of will and freedom. Erebus actively acts against such forces of order, enjoying the endless possibilities that anarchy brings with it.
As far as Erebus was concerned, the world belonged to everyone and yet nobody. It was just as much his as it was a demented baby rabbit's, and if he had it his way, both he and said rabbit would enjoy the world equally, however they so pleased.
Combat:
Erebus - All the World's a Stage
While powerful and clever Erebus' mouth and actions can certainly get him into trouble. He questions ideologies openly, mocking them if he finds their backing insufficient. He often does not take his opponents seriously, toying with them and laughing manically.
That said his control over Nether magic is at a very, very high level. He enjoys forging whips, spikes, and spheres conjured by the nether to bombard his opponents while zipping around them. He doesn't exactly possess the greatest range for his magics, but he is quite mobile and his magic hits hard, making him a nightmare to face in medium-ranged combat. Manipulative, Erebus will stoop to low and unorthodox methods in order to subdue a foe, and would honestly prefer to best an opponent in a unique and “fitting” method rather than outright obliterating them with raw power. His arcane magic is never utilized on it's own, but instead only to fuel and give truly personal shape to his Nether magic.
The lightning is just for fun and flavor.shock kink warning
As a result, beyond his magic prowess and agility, Erebus' most dangerous combat asset would be his unpredictability. In certain cases he will be relentless and direct in his combat approach. In others evasive and tricky. Sometimes precise and efficient, and sometimes slow, methodical, and sadistic. Erebus is always experimenting with just what he can do with his abilities. Being so experienced and a quick thinker allows for him to come up with a myriad of methods
