Current Ruler: Lord Leon The Crimson
Capital: Eridius
History: Eredil is a kingdom that was formed around a military concept. It was built with the idea of bringing order to the reaches to allow for settling and expansion. Many great warriors and scholars came together from various lands in what, at the time, was a show of unprecedented cooperation. The main construction that stands tall in the center of the kingdom is the Citadel Eridius. Around this mighty fortress is the Inner Golden Gate. In these days the kingdom was only a military concept and besieged by monsters and other threats endlessly. Only the strongest could survive and after many strained years the spirit of cooperation began to wane.
Roughly a decade into its existence changes were agreed must be made. Those gathered held a vote to decide their leader for them to rally behind. A man by the name of Endymion was chosen for the role. From there a sole representative from each of the contributing kingdoms acted as advisors and the first Knight’s Order. After this restructuring they began to carve out new territory and reinforcing the areas behind walls. These segmented areas behind what seems like hastily constructed and random walls today became areas for markets and homes. The walls themselves are known as the Silver Gates.
When word spread of this unification the lords of the nations that contributed were displeased to find what they contributed to had become its own independent nation. This brought war to their walls. The invading armies however were not accustomed to random monster threats or the sheer number of defenses the kingdom of Eredil had. It became clear that claiming Eredil would strain their resources too greatly just as the people of Eredil could not afford to be assailed on all fronts.
At the Silver Council, so named for occurring atop the Silver Wall, the rulers of Eredil and the other kingdoms came to an agreement. Eredil would retain its autonomy as its own nation with all privileges that included but the Knight’s Order would become a greater concept. Instead of solely for the Kingdom of Eredil they would act as a guardian force across the continent so long as they were welcomed and available.
In the years that followed Lord Endymion would fall in battle having produced no heir and so a new vote was held. A woman named Asta ascended to his place. Under her guidance many of the traditions of Eredil and the Knight’s Order known today would be formed. Chief of these was the method to induct new members into the Order itself. Warriors aspiring to do good or just find glory would take part in tournament to find the best of the best.
This time of expansion that followed would be known as the Bronze Age, after the outer walls that were constructed to protect the furthest boarders and farmland. Even under constant assault Eredil grew to become a shining beacon of the Eastern Reaches and credited as its peacekeepers. The Bronze Age ended with Asta’s death when her son inherited the role of ruler: King Lynise, the father of Leon.
During King Lynise’s rule the Knight’s Order began their crusade against the Witches of Desecration. This resulted in an increase in casualties and attacks from monsters of ever increasing ferocity and size. The effects of this dedicated crusade can be felt even today with the elite mage hunter division of the local guard. King Lynise’s life came to a premature end as under the influences of a curse he was sent into a spiraling madness and threw himself from his tower to his death.
King Leon did not wish to ascend to the throne just as birthright and instead opted for a vote as they once had done for his grandmother. Despite this approach he was voted the next lord of the Order as he had proven himself a brilliant ruler and warrior countless times before.
Military: Eredil is known for its military might and versatility. At the top it is overseen by members of the Knight’s Order who act as the generals or in many cases inspiring figures. While their area of ownership and control is relatively small their presence can be felt far and wide.
Knight’s Order: The top warriors and leaders of the military force. Their presence can often be seen extending beyond even matters of war and into economics and the like.
Mage Hunter Division: Relatively new force dedicated to the study of mages and how to counter and neutralize them. They are effective at their role but often viewed with suspicion and disdain. Mages are by no means unwelcome within Eredil, the presence of this force and the threat of the Witches of Desecration does cause undue tension.
The Guard: The average soldiers that patrol the streets keeping peace or making arrests. Not to be confused with The Guardian Division.
Guardian Division: The outer walls are rarely unguarded and those that defend it is the Guardian Division. These men and women are veterans of siege warfare and considered amongst the best in regards to battling monsters.
Rider Division: A catch all term for both cavalry and the more exotic flyers. These men and women serve as the majority of the offensive force that would be sent out to do battle. While divided into smaller subgroups based on the mount of choice they are collectively known as the Rider Division.
Infantry Division: The foot soldiers that do the brunt of the work and protect the engines of war. Consists of the Warrior Division, Engineer Division, and Mage Division.
Warrior Division: A loosely termed group as it covers all of the front line fighters, often viewed as the glory seekers by the engineers, they in turn view the Rider Division as the glory stealers when they break the enemy lines.
Archer Corps: A subset of the warrior division they serve as rangers, snipers, and ambushers alike.
Engineer Division: A military workforce and the operators of the siege engines. Need a wall torn down? They're your guys. Need a wall built or a trench? They'll do that too. Forgot an extra quiver? Go talk to the engineers. While the least combat proficient they are indispensable soldiers.
Mage Division: Consisting of separate corps it is collectively called the mage division. Rider division aside it is the largest division as what can be seen as infantry is so heavily divided. Regardless the Infantry Division is still a close second.
Offensive Corps: The mages that can fight.
Shaper Corps: These mages specialize in altering the battlefield's physical characteristics to suit their needs.
Healing Corps: What it says on the tin. Cuts or broken bones, they will patch you up. Perhaps the single most sought after group by kingdoms even beyond the Eastern Reaches.
Weakness/Strength: The fact that their forces are specialized in every way allows them to consist of elites and the local guard consisting of those that are training for a greater role. This is their greatest strength and weakness, for if any one force is eliminated it is exceedingly difficult to fill the role.
