Forgotten by most of Elibe or at best known as a construction service for hire, Celæno is at least known to the better educated as a haven for geomancers and floramancers, a makeshift academy of sorts that offers opportunities to help mages of those disciplines master their craft; it is through these two channels that the underground academy sustains itself, for there is always a demand for their incredibly durable foundations and nearly-impregnable castles. It is also known to be an archaeology focused community, one in which even non-mages are welcome to help chart and understand the ancient ruins and blackened roads snaking and tunneling in every direction, hundreds of feet or even miles below Elibe in an ever growing network. The core of the lowest of the Pleiades is decent sized at best and fairly orderly, but it belies the chaotic tunnels below.
What few outside the notoriously reclusive community know is just how much is actually down there - and perhaps more importantly, the horrors they have discovered. Far beneath the earth, far below the watchful eyes of Elibe's self-proclaimed protectors, things born of darkness fouler than the Nether itself crawl and kill. The Deep Roads are a spyglass to the darker past of Elibe, but sometimes things are forgotten for a reason, consigned to death and darkness long gone from the sights of men. While the near-surface citadel containing the 'official' Pleiades Celæno rarely touch on the subject, further down it is a matter of life and death, an unofficial army that clash regularly with all manner of foul beasts as researchers struggle to make sense of it all and discover what happened to the lost civilizations below. Far too deep to be mere sediment, they may have been swallowed by the earth or simply built ages ago.
The hunt for knowledge and rumors of unfathomable treasure alike combine into sets of rumors that escape nonetheless, though those who come seeking fame and fortune often expect something more glamorous than the sordid truth. In recent years, the threat from below has only swollen, leading to a number of old tunnels being closed without much warning or explanation by the faculty.
