Q. So... is Nocturne the prequel to WotW or what?
A. Nocturne is a possible prequel to WotW. It would be more fair to say that they both start out in the same timeline and diverge/converge in different ways based on how players change history.
Q. Why is the site named Nocturne?
A. Two answers, depending on how DEEP and METAPHORICAL and HERPDERP you want to go. A "nocturne" is a musical composition evocative of the night or themes of it. One of the driving themes of this site is the concept of a golden age being suffocated by darkness, a metaphorical night replacing the day. The other is that nocturne is just a cool word. You can pick your favorite of the two answers, they're both pretty accurate.
Q. How accurate are lore topics?
A. Exactly as accurate as people in-character believe. As for how objectively accurate that may be... that may be something worth exploring.
Q. So what's the deal with prepromotes? Doesn't that ruin progression?
A. Prepromotes were added to step away from linear progression and allow players to explore character concepts that would be difficult to play with more linear progression - the wise mentor, the grizzled warrior, the disgraced general. They are not meant to completely replace starting off as rookie, and come with some limitations that ensure they aren't an automatic first choice. You can ignore them completely if you want to play with normal progression. Similarly, the 450 start is there if you want to start off as a raging badass, but everyone is the same at 500.
Q. So is there a plot, or...?
A. Nocturne is an emergent world - the majority of plot is player-created and played, which depending on your aspirations can range from the political repercussions of aiding one side or another in border skirmishes to saving a town from a monster invasion. There are underlying secrets to the world to be discovered, mysteries to be unraveled, and more than meets the eye in a number of things - but there is not a "demon king" or "final boss" who is orchestrating everything from the shadows. Which is not to say that there are as-of-yet un-revealed players to be discovered...
Q. Okay seriously what's that Alias thing for?
A. You put your preferred OOC nickname there - same across all accounts, please. It tells people what you'd like to be called and identifies alts to help with confusion.
Q. How do I get an in-character title then?
A. Talk to the staff. Gotta do it manually if you want a cool one, and we reserve the right to only hand out character titles that make sense for the character.
