Name: Veigue Magnus
Class: Myrmidon (Lv. 12).
Affinity: Fire.
Appearance: Being twenty-three years of age, Veigue's a rather tall young man, though not lofty as he stands about 5"10. He's quite satisfied with his height and weight, for he figures his body is in the perfect form to be as agile as possible, otherwise he wouldn't be able to maneuver around as effectively and battle the way his fighting style requires him. To also make this easier, he wears very light-weighted clothing, having only a slim dark blue coat over his Sacaean attire. There's not a single piece of armor found on him, for he does generally use light-weighted weapons and doesn't rely on any heavy protection to slow him down. (See his mugshot in my avatar for more apparent details)
Veigue's Theme
Personality: Veigue isn't much of a talker, as he's mostly a calm and composed person. Unless he knows someone really well or they are a friend, then talking to him would be like having a conversation with a brick wall (Not literally, of course). He only uses words whenever they are strictly necessary...or if he's in the mood, to make a small joke. He nearly silenced himself due to being on bad terms with several people throughout his entire life. It's difficult for him to trust or befriend anyone who seems even he slightest bit suspicious. He feels as though he's a magnet for trouble most of the time. People didn't seem to like him very much...even his own kind. He never knew the reasons either. As such, he closes himself in and keeps to himself unless he's working.
But he still remains a kind-hearted and respectful individual. While he doesn't gain much respect from others who antagonize him, he still holds on to giving much of it to others in highest priority. He didn't gain advice from his father, but his mother and sister were his only reliable means of learning proper courtesy. He was taught to always respect others...even if they were to antagonize him. To never stoop down to anyone's level. Veigue took that advice and made his own view on respect, coming to the conclusion that no matter how cruel, evil, or disrespectful one may be, he'd treat them just as he would as a friend if they changed their ways...and if they aren't hurting anyone.
Even in battle he holds honor in high regard. While he doesn't hesitate to take a life, he still debates to himself if they really deserve to die or not, unless it's an enemy he's forced to kill. If he defeats an opponent and they managed to live from their wounds, he won't attack them anymore unless they become persistent and wants to deal more harm to him. That's when he instantly makes the decision to deal the final blow, much to his Sacaen heritage. If an enemy is an evil scum right down to the core, then he'd waste no time cutting them down.
While he doesn't have too many friends (said friends who he doubts were unfortunate to fall into another time like he has), he respects them more than anything. Generally, he's a lone wolf who prefers to handle situations on his own, relying on his own strength...but when others he respect are involved, things are a little different and he'd accept help when it's required. If he feels as though he can trust someone enough, he'd happily give his life to make sure they are treated well by others and not harmed in the slightest. This is where his personality can change a bit. If someone or a group of people he cares about are in danger, then he'd do everything he could to save them no matter the cost. If an enemy stood in his path to protect the one he's loyal to, he'd run them over in the process. Blocking his way to protect is like hurting the one he cares about directly.
He also tends to never give up until defeated completely. His strong will carries him through many obstacles that he has to face, even if his life is on the line. If he needs to take a beating in battle to try and find a way to learn the opponent and win, then he'd take it. If he was trying to help someone and he was slowed down by an injury, he'd push through and pretend like he wasn't even injured in the first place, despite the pain. He never allows his determination to be swayed. Whether or not it's a weakness, he doesn't seem too concerned about it. Veigue could be a very stubborn fellow when backed into a corner or forced to be decisive.
Veigue tries his best to better himself overall. He knows that he has limits and he wants to surpass them to improve his skills...as well his ability to complete a task more efficiently. Being put down by his father by how weak he was back then, he honestly believed so. If he was told he was weak, then it's was just that. He needed to get stronger. Nothing more, nothing less. He aims to perfect his family's fighting style to the point where it surpassed his despised, yet deceased father's skill and his well-respected sister, Lena. But now that he's been thrown into another time entirely, there was no way he could test the progress of his skill now that his sister technically doesn't even exist...unless he found a way back home. If he meets someone and admires their skill, he'd most likely challenge them to see how far he's progressed in training and how much he's grown in his own skills. Even if the person is vastly stronger and more skilled than he, he'll keep on training and challenging until he wins. Another example of his stubbornness.
...Also, it's best to avoid approaching him suddenly or sneaking up on him during training. He just might attack you out of pure instinct and retaliation to a possible threat.
Backstory: When he was a little boy, Veigue spent most of his time under the care of his mother and sister. With his father rarely being at their home and spending more time with his sister, Lena, Veigue wasn't too attached to his father. Ironically, his father despised him. The uneasiness ran deep, as every time he looked at Veigue, he saw nothing but disappointment.
Veigue himself didn't notice this resentment until he was denied assistance with village children pounding on him unexpectedly and his father simply turned his back and ignored the conflict. He could never live up to his father's expectations of being a swordsman of Sacae. They possess a unique fighting style owned by their family, the Magnus, that used both the sword and sheath during combat, as it was passed down secretly throughout their family for generations, unable to speak of the details to keep it secret from outsiders. Veigue could never do too well with it at first, so his father placed less and less faith in him as the days and months passed. Soon, his father left him in the dark about his family's origins and cursed the fact that he had a son in the first place, thus placing all his love into Lena.
More years passed and when Veigue was around fourteen, he overall became better with his family's style with the help of his sister. But his father wasn't pleased due to still not having interest in his son's potential. At the same time, his mother passed away due to a natural sickness she had ever since she was born. But according Veigue's father, his recklessness in an event that caused him to come home covered in blood was what killed his mother, for he claimed that worsened her condition. This caused some unneeded tension between the two, eventually resulting in Veigue to respond in kind: Hating his father even more. While he respected the other members of his family and the fighting style given to him, he referred to his father as a "disgrace" to Sacae. They always treasured a family sword (A Wo Dao) in which was in his father's possession. Veigue felt that a man who couldn't love family isn't worthy of such a weapon. As such, he challenged his father, who was a swordmaster, to gain possession of the sword...to prove that he wasn't a weakling and that the sword should be given to someone more worthy. Though he didn't have any means of using it himself. He planned on keeping it with him just to prove a point.
They fought and Veigue was ultimately defeated. It was then that his father decided to be so bold as to attempt to take his son's life after the battle...to apparently rid the world of such an unworthy son who was apparently an "uncontrollable beast" who would likely lose control of his emotions and lead a path of tyranny. Before he could be struck down, Veigue was surprisingly saved by Lena, who delivered a killing blow to their father unexpectedly, for she was watching from behind a lone tree that was near the fight. She also felt that their father was a disgrace to Sacae for feeling the way he did. Veigue knew that his sister would have to answer for her crime...even though it was to save him. As such, when people questioned his father's death, he announced that he was the murderer to save his sister. This resulted in him being exiled from the Kutolah, the tribe that took his family in for generations, and he left on a quest to travel the world. Though before he could depart, his sister obviously confessed to counter-save her brother. She was exiled and Veigue was relieved from banishment...but he still chose to leave the Kutolah. He took a separate path from his sister and decided to go on his desired quest to become stronger and to see if he could make a significant change in the world. Before they went separate ways, Veigue's sister gave the Wo Dao to him...but told him not to use it until he felt he was worthy enough to wield it. Since they were the only known members of their family left alive, they still gained rights to the sword. It was then that he agreed and traveled all over Elibe to hone his skills. He took a job as a mercenary during his travels.
He often returned to Sacae to enjoy the plains in which he grew up in...but never returned to his village due to the past. He went through countless trials and tribulations to survive in the world...even being forced to kill those who threatened his life. It was then that when he grew into a man, he became quite the decent swordsman and was beginning to master his fighting style little by little. Certain events even helped with his hesitation for taking a life...for it took staining his hands and sword with blood of his enemies to become used to the violence he was forced into. He even went through situations where he finally realized how to handle people who had no desire to change their inhumane ways...by protecting the innocent from them and ending their existence when no one else could do the job. While continuing to be a traveling mercenary, Veigue could never forget the events of his life. He grew a silent personality, but still remained a strong-willed and friendly person in character.
It was then after a year later and he became his current age, he encountered two friends on his lone journey, Elly and Nayru, who were traveling around like he was that he could actually place his trust into. He was so used to handling things on his own and going against those who deceived him just for his belongings that it took a little while to place 100% faith in them, but it wasn't too long of a time frame due to his kind nature. It was also due to them saving his life during a bloody struggle in a Sacaean village that was unfortunately destroyed in the end...but he owed them his life, and even joined up with them, realizing they shared a common goal while wandering the world. As such, they earned his loyalty as a friend until the very end.
However at same time, he learned that he was being pursued by a man named Jaquio on the same day he met them. He never found out why this man wanted him dead, but he knew sooner or later, his new friends would be caught up deep in his own affairs...just like how that village suffered. He even met up with his sister again along the way, but was both sad and happy that they were forced apart again, for she had her own journey to continue...but he couldn't allow his sister to be tied into the flames of battle as well. He had to bare with that thought for the entirety of the time he spent with Elly and Nayru. Eventually as more time passed, he became closer to them to the point where he couldn't possibly risk endangering their lives with Jaquio wanting his head so badly, as the mysterious man sent countless bounty hunters and assassins after him. But one day, he received information that Jaquio had a hideout in the area they stopped in, hearing the place had a group of thugs he hired for protection. He figured, "If I can take him out now, then I can finally put things to rest" and decided to set out in the dead of the night to seek the confrontation he was so waiting for...but he didn't tell his friends where he was going exactly...that he left them behind a farewell note that he was sorry for getting them involved in his personal affairs, and that he had a mission to fulfill. He left the note as vague as possible, for he didn't intend to come back alive. Going against multiple opponents, dirty fighters at that, was quite suicide. But if he wanted his friends to be safe, he only desired to take Jaquio down with him. The struggle wasn't even about his own safety anymore...and even if he did somehow survive, he couldn't go back to his friends after leaving so suddenly without warning and a note as a poor excuse. There's no way he'd be forgiven.
So he arrived at his destination after he took the whole next day to prepare, striking at nighttime while their guard would have likely been down. He knew these fighters were hired and had nothing to do with he and Jaquio's personal struggle, but they loyally protected him for the gold he liked promised them...and he was forced to go in there with the mindset to kill them all if it couldn't be avoided (Granted, they're numbers weren't that big). He didn't want to stain his hands with more blood...but that blackheart of a nemesis would have sent them to their doom either way. He tried his best to sneak past some who were patrolling to spare as many lives as possible, but by the time he entered the abandoned war fort that Jaquio used as a base, he was spotted due to not knowing where his real target could be in the building. Using the narrow hallways to his advantage, he took out as many guards as possible that came at him. An hour passed as he had random encounters and hid out for several minutes to strike when the time was right. Eventually, most of the bodyguards were wiped out while some threw in the towel and figured it wasn't worth the trouble...but all the fighting and the severe injuries he gained was taking it's toll on Veigue (which luckily for Veigue, if they ALL fought, he would have already been dead). He finally encountered the final room in the fort where Jaquio had to be, dragging himself through the hallway as he stayed on the wall with a slight limp and was even leaving a trail of his own blood on the floors, despite bandaging himself up while he hid earlier. He was still in a somewhat decent fighting condition, though he was still too weak to fight at full force anymore.
It was then that he finally confronted his nemesis Jaquio, the Enigmatic Sage. But before he could take him on, the tyrant's most skilled bodyguard stepped in to protect. He was quite the titan of a man, but Veigue managed to keep step with him due to actually having the weapon advantage. Jaquio had escaped out the back of the fort and Veigue gave chase while the bodyguard followed in kind. The fight was taken outside since Veigue's mobility was hindered with his injuries to further pursue his real enemy. But ultimately in the end, the Sacaean was defeated by the bodyguard, but was spared simply because Jaquio wanted Veigue to experience more "pain" before he wanted to kill him. He threatened to track down Veigue's companions and attempt to kill them if he happened to find them, and defenseless as Veigue was in his position, he lacked the power and energy he lost during battle to stop Jaquio no matter how hard he tried to rise. But suddenly, a fierce wind picked up and before Veigue knew it, some large rip that appeared to be a portal swallowed him entirely, as well as Jaquio and his bodyguard.
He blacked out after that and when he finally came to, he was resting in a bed as he was all bandaged up. Eventually he wandered around in the unknown home and found a young couple sitting at their dinner table. He asked them what happened and they told him they found him unconscious on the ground and was almost taken away by a flowing river if they found him any sooner. Apparently they heard loud splashing noise before they found him...which meant Jaquio and his bodyguard must have fallen dead into the river and was taken away, for they said there was an enormous waterfall at the end. But he had the strangest feeling that they both weren't finished off by the event. Strangely enough, his family's sword was gone. It must have unattached itself from his person when his body was partially in the river. He figured that it was taken away and washed up somewhere.
But apparently he was in a small home in the middle of nowhere within Central Elibe...which should have been where Lycia was. But to his surprise, nothing quite appeared the same. He even asked where he was and was told "Arcadia". That didn't quite add up...he even gazed at a world map he happened to come across and it didn't look anything like the map of Elibe he's always seen. He had no idea if he should have just wandered around to see if this was all fake or if he wasn't in some weird dream. He didn't even remember exactly how this even happened, just that he passed out after seeing he, Jaquio and his bodyguard being pulled towards something in the sky. But this place was definitely Elibe...however, everything seemed a bit older. He was even stared at by many for his clothing. Was he...backtracked into time itself? If that was true, not only would he not be able to return home, but he'd never see his friends and Lena again, as he had high doubts they were thrown out of their time like he was. He was indebted to the couple that saved him, but he took his leave from them as he embarked on another journey...where he had no idea where he was going other than to find his lost sword, for it had a specific design that was not hard to miss. To either find a way back home, or just drift along in the unknown time to find a new purpose...
