Name: Caelduin Odintongue
Age: 725
Class: Manakete (20)
Appearance: In his human form, Caelduin appears as an older man around his mid fifties. His long, blond hair reaches his shoulders and he has a shaggy goatee the he attempts to keep neat, but often disagrees with him. Though surprisingly fit for someone who appears that old, he intentionally moves in a slow shuffling manner to deliberately mislead people into thinking he is much weaker than he actually is. To add to this image, he wears baggy robes in the colors of the Odintongue family to add to his sickly image. In his dragon form, however, he is sleek and powerful. Roughly as tall a two-story house, and as long as two, Caelduin is covered in black scales that are rather matte and don't reflect much light. The skin on his belly is blood red and his horns are a pale bone white. At the end of his tail is a blade-like claw that is as sharp as any sword.
Personality: Caelduin could best described as driven. Obsessed with gaining power and bringing the Odintongue name to glory, he will do whatever it takes to engrave his family into the history of Elibe. While normally calm and cordial, Cael has a tendency to crack under pressure and break out into angry tirades. This has led him to have few friends or allies, and as such, he now desperately clings to the few that remain with sugared words and false smiles. To Cael, his fellow dragons are both potential allies and secret foes. He is quite proud of his race and views the other races with a hint of animosity. While certainly not up to the caliber of dragons, he believes humans can be quite useful despite their tendency to die before finishing their goals. Taguels, on the other hand, hold very little political power over the world and are practically useless to Cael, their only purpose being their brute strength.
Backstory: At one point in their long history, the Odintongues had been revered and respected. Several of their patriarchs had even served on the Celestial Council, while other members of the family had been Arbiters, one of whom had guarded the Isle of Valor itself. However, this fame and fortune was not to last. After the death of the family’s greatest patriarch, the family experienced a string of terrible leaders that pulled them deeper into debt and soiled the family’s sterling reputation. The worst of these patriarchs was Belgor Odintongue, the father of Caelduin. His propensity for spending exorbitant amounts of money and entertaining some less than pleasant company had put the family at an all time low. Despite this, the family continued to live in an opulence they could not afford.
It was during this time that Caelduin was born, and for much of his early childhood he enjoyed a life most children could only dream of, blissfully unaware of his family’s growing debts. He was completely and utterly spoiled and it caused him to develop a taste for the fine things in life that would carry on into his adult life. Never in his childhood was he denied anything he asked for and he was given the finest tutors money could buy. This, however, would come back to haunt both him and his family.
As Cael reached adolescence, he became more and more aware that his family was in trouble. What surprised him, though, is how unconcerned his father seemed about the matter. To him, it was as if none of their problems existed. At first, Caelduin assumed that his father was either unaware of their plights or perhaps was being lied to by his creditors. But when he confronted his father on the matter, he acted as if they had an infinite amount of gold and would never be in trouble. Cale’s mouth had dropped open at that moment. His father was an idiot and was going to drive their family out of existence if he was allowed to continue for too much longer. It was on that day that Cael vowed to take control of the family as soon as he was old enough.
Upon entering adulthood, he immediately began setting plans in motion. As soon as it was convenient, Caleduin arranged to have his father assassinated. As he was returning from a string of bad decisions, Belgor’s carriage was littered with flaming arrows. The carriage was consumed by the fire before Belgor was even aware he was being attacked and he perished in the fire. His father now removed from the picture, Cael took his place as the family’s patriarch. Now that he was in charge, he set about selling of what he could and paying off as many of the family’s debts as he could. Over the course of many years, Cael set about paying off the rest of his family’s debts through schemes, deals, and selling property. Eventually, the debts were paid, and he was left with nothing but his family’s manor. Now free from the grips of creditors, he resolved to restore his family’s name.
Caelduin made his way to Arcadia, realizing that politics was where he would restore the Odintongue’s to fame. He attempted to join the Celestial Council and was nearly laughed out of the city. Thoroughly embarrassed, he decided to become an Arbiter instead. While he was granted that honor, he was continually assigned to the most boring and insulting posts his commanders could find. He toiled in this position for years, dejected. Eventually, he grew frustrated with the disrespect he received and retired from the Arbiters. Returning to his manor, he spent nearly a year squandering his time in a lonely depression. Then, one day, he realized how pathetic he had become. Once again vowing to return his family to fame, he set out to make new allies and forge a powerful empire.
